Where cats go

Cats hide. Then they get found.

Most lost cats are closer than you think, and turn up on someone else's found-pet post. A face search catches that.

Hiding close to home

A frightened indoor cat usually hides silently within a few houses, not miles away.

Displaced outdoors

An indoor cat that slips out freezes in unfamiliar territory and goes to ground.

Spooked and bolted

A loud noise or a dog can send a cat over fences into a stranger's shed or garage.

Picked up as a stray

Friendly cats get 'rescued' and posted to found-pet and rehoming pages.

Frequently asked questions

My cat has very common markings, does that matter?

No. The model reads facial structure, not just coat patterns, so even common tabbies and solid black cats are distinguishable from one another.

What should I photograph?

A clear, front-on shot of the face with eyes open and good light works best. Markings around the eyes and nose give the model the most to work with.

What is the matching model option?

Cat search lets you choose the model under advanced options: Ensemble (recommended) blends face and body matching, or you can force face-only or body-only matching to suit your photo.

Is my photo stored?

No. Your photo is processed in memory and discarded. Nothing is written to disk or kept after the search.

It found a possible match. What now?

Open the source listing and contact the finder or shelter directly. If a listing is yours and you want it gone, you can request removal from the result.
